Those who like to travel back in time and are looking for something special, will make the most of their stay in Rethymno in this historical live-in museum (10/09 EP)
You could happen upon Casa Vitae while strolling through the maze of the streets of old Town of Rethymno, as the hotel's in the heart of it. And rightly so, as it is rumored to have been the residence of the Venetian governor during their 15th century rule.
The mansion is a 3 storey stone pink coloured building, accessed via a passageway covered in beautiful hand painted period murals. The patio is a highlight, with a lovely pond and a stone fountain, remains from the first era of the house and of considerable historical value. A modern staircase sided by tall stone pillars leads to the upper floors. The annex building is next to the hotel and shares most of the medieval characteristics of the main building.
LobbyThe small reception is at the lower ground vaults, whose original stone arches are still visible.
